About our teachers:
In addition to instruction in visual arts, Hazel Hunter, a longtime quilter and retired social service professional, will introduce campers to the art of quilting while sharing stories and traditions passed down through generations. Latasha Ferguson, former Captain of the Miami Dolphins cheerleader, nursing professional, and founder of All-Star Dance Camp, will teach dance and nutrition. Kesynce Daniels, LA Tech Regal Blue dance team member and former Miss Juneteenth will teach traditional African dance and movement, helping students explore rhythm, expression, and cultural traditions through performance. A special focus of the camp will be storytelling and culinary arts. Former educator and community historian Bobby Rabon will share stories rooted in local history and African American traditions while introducing students to traditional recipes and foodways. Diedra Dunbar, kindergarten teacher and owner of Exodus Family Farms, will help connect students to the agricultural roots of these traditions through hands-on learning experiences at her family farm. Campers will spend time in the Grow Grambling Community Garden harvesting fresh vegetables and herbs and using those ingredients to prepare traditional African and African American dishes, learning culinary skills while exploring the cultural significance of food, family, and community.
Ruston Summer Art Camp’s Sponsors
Thanks to Christiane Drieling for her Art on 45 funds that continue to fund supplies for Ruston Summer Arts Camp. And thanks to our family memberships which fund our teachers. We also want to thank our partner, the Lincoln Parish Library; without community partnerships and sponsors such as these, projects like our Summer Arts Camps would not be possible. NCLAC is grateful for operating support from the Louisiana Division of the Arts with additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
