Design from Around the World: Canada

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzHvFya1FpU&feature=player_embedded]This week I wanted to talk about a graphic design team from Canada that tried to redesign the Canadian stereotype. When you think Canada, you usually think of maple syrup, beavers, hockey, and the Mounties. These guys wanted to change your mind with design. Bruce Mau Design with Studio 360 and Kurt Anderson came up with a brand campaign called “Know Canada”.  Their goal was to challenge everyone to rethink how Canada appears to the World. What they came up with was placing the Canadian flag’s two red stripes onto various Canadian imagery, creating a new identity. Here is a video they came up with. Do you think it works to change the stereotype?

When I think of Canada I will probably still think of all the same things I usually do but then think about this Campaign. So it doesn’t completely change my mind but it definitely makes me think about it more.
