NCLAC would like to celebrate the artists living in our own backyard whether they were raised here, relocated, or just like to visit enough to call Ruston home. ABOUT LAURA
Laura Glen is a creative jewelry maker whose love of nature's graceful beauty is expressed through th art of sculpting precious metals into unique pieces of jewelry. Through Laura Glen's travels with her husband, a renowned wildlife artist, she finds fresh inspiration for her pieces from the natural world. Glen travels a multi-state area participating in various shows and festivals and has won many awards. Her work is found in a selected number of galleries and shops. She has been interviewd by Louisiana Public Radio and has been featured in several newspapers and magazines including Louisiana Life magazine. She is a member of the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi, North Central Louisiana Arts Council, and the Louisiana Craft Guild.
ARTIST STATMENT
I want the people who wear my jewelry to feel a connection to the jewelry and know the piece was created with love and care. I believe this sense of connectivity is achieved through the synergy of seeking balance and harmony between metal and stone ia fluid organic style. Inspiration for many of my designs comes from watching nature...the shapes of trees, the growth of wild vines and the curves of clouds.
THE INTERVIEW
NCLAC: What's your first memory of the arts, and/or how did you become interested in art?
LAWSON: Painting at the La Tech Nursery School when I was 3 or 4 years old.
NCLAC: What do you think of the current "state" of the arts in our country, state, or region?
LAWSON: The arts should have a more prominent place in education. Creative thinking is vital to innovation in all areas.
NCLAC: Who were your childhood heroes?
LAWSON: Grandfather and great uncle.
