On Sunday, June 3rd, the North Central Louisiana Arts Council (NCLAC) will present an exhibition of recent paintings from artist Joshua Chambers at Crescent City Coffee, located at 1007 N. Trenton St off I-20, Exit 85. There will be an opening reception from 2-4 pm, and food and drinks will be served, including coffee and a sweet treat. The artwork will stay on display through the summer months for patrons of the coffee shop to enjoy.
Joshua Chambers received his Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana Tech University in 2009, and he is currently a teacher for the Talent Art 
Program of Oauchita Parish Schools. His work has been featured in national and international exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe, and he has been published in New American Paintings, Creative Quarterly, Studio Visit Magazine, and The Red Clay Survey. He also has permanent collections at the Lessedra Gallery in Bulgaria and the Osage Gallery in the Gilcrease Museum of the Americas.
The title of the exhibition “Between Two Unlike Things” comes from the definition of “metaphor,” or the application of seemingly unrelated cultural symbols to create an idea. Chambers is interested in using his highly symbolic artwork to generate a dialog with his audience. In his artist's statement, Chamber's writes that he creates “cryptic tableaus” inspired by the emotions and decisions of everyday life. His paintings and prints feature characters who are deep in thought and suspended in “depthless landscapes of saturated color.” By applying new perspectives and theories to traditional artistic methods, he has created a series of unique paintings for this exhibition.
