NCLAC Announces Internship Opportunities

Student Internships The North Central Louisiana Arts Council, a 501 c-3 non profit, is currently recruiting for a variety intern positions for 2010-2011. These are paid internships.  Payment is based on contracted time and skill level. 

INTERNS-It is the policy of NCLAC to provide opportunities for volunteers and student interns with development duties so that they can gain practical and professional experience, or so that they may simply have an outlet for helping the community we serve.

To be accepted as volunteers/interns, candidates must complete an Application Form, undergo a reference check, and be interviewed by NCLAC's Executive Director. If appropriate placements can be made, volunteers and student interns will be assigned to work under the Ex.Dir, who will see that they adhere to a work schedule, are evaluated, and observe the same rules and codes of conduct as all members/employees of NCLAC.

All volunteers and student interns serve at the discretion of the Ex.Dir of NCLAC and /or the President, who can terminate their relationship with this agency at any time for any reason.

Internship Responsibilities

The qualified intern provides creative support and clerical services to the North Central Louisiana Arts Council, assisting in areas such as Programs, Special Events, Public Relations, and Development.

The intern will assist in the planning, implementation, and execution of the North Central Louisiana Arts Council programs: Holiday Arts Tour, MARK (Educational) Programs, Art of Film, Piney Hills Gallery, Summer Arts Camp, Peach Art Exhibit, and various other special programs.

The intern will have the opportunity to assist in any of the following ways:  in public relations, designing brochures and other media promotional materials, writing press releases, updating the website and blog, e-marketing, taking photographs, creating media credentials and press kits, tracking press clippings and editing print pieces.

The intern will assist in fund-raising for the North Central Louisiana Arts Council, with opportunities to assist in grant proposal and report writing, and prospect research. Duties may include data processing of donor gifts and acknowledgments and preparation of direct mail solicitations.

General Information

Since Arts Council Interns will assist with volunteer and meeting organization, mass mailings, and updating and maintaining database records, good organizational skills are required. Self-motivation and the capability of organizing the workload within an established system and time frame are extremely important. Experience in dealing with the public, good communication skills, and interpersonal "people management" skills are preferred. Business hours at the Arts Council are 9A.M. to 3P.M. The hours required for the internship are 8-10 hours per week, but hours are flexible depending on the intern’s school schedule.
