Grambling State University Presents "The Wiz"

Grambling State University Theatre to present The Wiz, music and lyrics by Charles Small and book by William F. Brown, on September 20-23 and 27-29 at the Floyd L. Sandle Theatre, located in the Conrad Hutchinson Performing Arts Center.  The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Grambling State University is pleased to announce its inaugural production of the season, The Wiz, with music and lyrics by Charles Small and book by William F. Brown.  The “Super Soul Musical” is an adaptation of the classic The Wizard of Oz.  Dorothy is whisked away from her family’s farmhouse and seeks to find her way back home with the help of her three new friends.  Together they search to find the Emerald City all while dancing their way through the obstacles Evilene sets out to keep them from reaching their final destination – the great and powerful Wiz. This toe-tapping, seat-dancing musical is sure to please audiences from all golden paths.

 Directed by Dr. King D. Godwin, the cast consists of a large, talented group of GSU students under the music direction of Michael Jackson and choreography of Dianne Maroney-Grigsby.  The production staff includes Steve Chapin as set designer, Hardy Bates as technical director and sound designer, Teshia Lincoln as costume designer, Jonte Smith as lighting designer, and Jamila Hickman as stage manager.

 The production runs September 20-23 & 27-29 at 7:00 PM each night. Tickets are reserved seating only at $8 per person.  Tickets may be purchased at the box office during the day starting September 12th.  Box office hours are Monday – Thursday 1:00pm-5:00pm.  For more information, please call 318 274-2201.
