This past week NCLAC and the Dixie Center for the Arts hosted a Drama Winter Workshop for kids 6-10 years old. The kids and the instructor had a wonderful time. Leigh Anne Chambers, NCLAC Executive Director and the instructor for the workshop said, "I was just blow away by all the children. Every single one of them showed a real talent for performing arts". The workshop started with an in depth tour of the Dixie, a theatre built in the 1920's for silent films and concerts. The kids then learned a series of warm ups and participated in a variety of theatre games that introduce the fundamentals of theatre and performance. They also did two projects based in theatre history; Greek Masks and Indonesian Shadow Puppets. Parents had this to say about their kids experiences. "Thank you to NCLAC and Ms. Leigh Ann Chambers for a great program today--my 7-year-old could not stop talking about it! She went on and on about all of the things that she learned, from the history of theater to stage direction, as well as the masks and puppets she made. She really had a lot of fun and I appreciated the educational and structured activity over the holiday break from school. THANK YOU!!!" -Aimee Blackham
"CeCe had a fantastic time and told us all about her "puppet shadows" and "being together whatever the weather in unique New York!" Great job!" -Paul Crook
NCLAC plans on doing more workshops in the future during school breaks, so be sure to keep an eye out here on our blog for up to date information.
