60x60 is calling for works for its tenth performance season!

Vox Novus is inviting composers/sound artists to submit recorded works 60 seconds or less in length to be included in its tenth annual 60x60 project. 60 compositions will be selected to be played continuously in a one-hour concert.

60x60 is a one-hour-long show made by sequencing 60 pre-recorded pieces by 60 different composers, each piece a minute in length or shorter. Highlighting the work of a great many composers, 60x60 testifies to the vibrancy of contemporary composition by present a diverse array of styles, aesthetics, and techniques being used today ( ). 60x60 has received thousands of submissions from over 30 countries, produced radio shows, created multimedia and multidisciplinary events, and released several albums.

During the concert each of the 60 pieces selected will begin precisely at the beginning of the minute, this will mark the end of one piece and the beginning of another. There will be no pause between the pieces. Works may be less than 60 seconds in length, but may not exceed 60 seconds. Works selected that are less than 60 seconds long will be "padded" with silence either before, after, or surrounding the composition. Please note that the total duration of the work including silence may NOT exceed sixty seconds.

The 60x60 project's definition of a record work is as follows: any work created as a musical composition which is captured on recorded media, which does not require live performers for its production in broadcast at concert halls, radio, multi-media, etc. Its creation can include but not limited to acoustic instruments, voice, environmental sources, and computer (Sampling, MAX MSP, MIDI, C Sound, ProTools, etc.)

All works submitted should be with the understanding that it is their recording that is of prime importance and is what will be used to determine its selection.

60x60 is a project of "signature works" and short works created specifically for the 60x60 project. Excerpts of larger works are strongly discouraged. Works generated from procedures (i.e. mathematical matrices, organizational systems, or computer programs,) remixed works, or themes and motives recomposed from other of the composer's own work are acceptable.

In addition to the 60x60 International Mix, Vox Novus is planning to create at least 10 mixes to celebrate 60x60's tenth call for works. Planned mixes include the Canada Mix, Athena Mix, UnTwelve Mix, UK Mix, Northeast Mix, Europe Mix, Presenters Mix, and more.

The call is open to composers of any nationality, age, or career stage.

Deadline for 60 second compositions for 60x60 is May 31, 2012.

Public Art Call: Monumental Sculpture – Chattanooga

Public Art Chattanooga is seeking proposals for a monumental sculpture for temporary placement on a grassy lot at the corner of West Main Street and Broad Street in downtown Chattanooga’s burgeoning Southside district. The sculpture will be on view for two years from June 2012 to June 2014. The artist will receive a $20,000 stipend.

Art Melt 2012 – Juried Exhibit – Call to Artists

The Art Melt is the largest multi-media, juried exhibit in the state of Louisiana. Now in its 9th year, the Art Melt strives to promote professional artists throughout the state of Louisiana while providing an opportunity for the public to experience the best of local fine art, music, performing arts, and culinary creation. This show is open to Louisiana resident artists only. The Art Melt 2012 will take place in downtown Baton Rouge, LA at the Shaw Center for the Arts on Saturday, July 14th from 5-10pm. All artwork accepted to the competition will hang in the Shaw Center Gallery and remain up and open to the public for 3 weeks following the event.

3 Ring Circus Arts & Education Center is a multi-use Arts, Music, Education and Special Event venue. The organization presents Visual Arts, Film, and Music from emerging artists at the Big Top, a family friendly venue in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans. Also, the organization is a leader in presenting Arts Education programs for Children and Youth.

The Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of established 3 Ring Circus Art Programs including Friday Night Music Camp, Summer Arts Camp, and the Peep Show Film Program. Also the Manager is responsible for creating new programs and special events (rentals, benefits etc.) that fulfill the 3 Ring Circus mission of promoting emerging art and artist.
The Manager is also responsible for the Promotions and Public Relations, Fundraising, and Financial Management for 3 Ring Circus Arts & Education Center. The Manager answers to and works in partnership with the Board of Directors to support the artistic mission of the 3 Ring Circus Arts & Education Center.
Skills Required: The Manager position requires general knowledge in Arts Administration, the Creative process and the role that Art plays in the Community. General skills required in Arts Administration, Non-profit operations, Business and/or Education. Interest and knowledge of the emerging Art & Music segment with experience in developing Art and Music careers. Knowledge of Arts Education programs that target children, youth and adults. General skills related to marketing, public relations, fundraising, arts related community outreach, and organizational development are essential components of this position. Manager duties include:1. Develop and Manage creative self-sustaining Art Education Programs. 2. Develop and Manage the Special Event (Rentals, Private events) Revenue stream of 3 Ring Circus Arts & Education Center. 3. Funding: Southern Arts Foundation Touring Deadline:  Rolling. SAF Touring Grants: The Southern Arts Federation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts offers Southern Fast Track Touring grants. This program, through its rolling deadline, is designed to offer Southern presenters more opportunities throughout the year to apply for fee support. Aimed at smaller presenters, the Southern Fast Track Touring program seeks to establish an active arts environment in underserved communities. This program offers fee support to present performing artists and writers from outside the presenter’s state. These grants are limited to presenting organizations with operating budgets of $100,000 or less.  Applications must be postmarked 60 days prior to the project start date. The maximum request is 50% of the artist fee, up to $2,500. JAA and JIA Arts Commission are seeking artists to develop and submit site specific artwork proposals for the Courtyard Restroom Fin Wall and two Water Fountain Surrounds within JIA, which is centrally located within JIA between the Haskell Gallery and the Sky Gallery. This will be a focal point of the courtyard, which is JIA’s most heavily traveled area, with nearly six million passengers per year. JAA and JIA Arts Commission expect that a signature work of art will create a memorable experience for all who visit Jacksonville. Budget: $75,000

Opportunity:  The Philanthropy Film Award

Job Opening: LEH Associate Media Editor

The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities seeks a talented Associate Media Editor to join our creative team in producing KnowLA – The Online Encyclopedia of Louisiana History and Culture, and Louisiana Cultural Vistas, an award-winning quarterly arts and culture magazine in print for 23 years. This person will assist the Senior Media Editor with a variety of responsibilities, including researching and acquiring archival media, editing digital content, and entering metadata. Some familiarity with content management systems is required. The ideal candidate should be able to manage high-volume digital work flows for graphic, audio and video content, and should be proficient in digital imaging and editing with Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. A BA or BFA in digital media/new media/ photography or communications is preferred and recent graduates will be considered. While some foundational knowledge of Louisiana’s history and culture is a plus, a sincere interest is essential. Salary range: mid 30s.
