USArtists International Guidelines now available

Guidelines are now available for the 2012 USArtists International (USAI) program. USAI provides support for American dance, music, and theater ensembles and solo artists invited to perform at significant international festivals or engagements that represent extraordinary career opportunities anywhere in the world outside the United States and its territories. The application deadline for the first of three grant rounds of the 2012 program will be Tuesday, September 6, 2011 for projects taking place between November 1, 2011 and October 31, 2012. This is a receipt deadline. Additional deadlines for the 2012 program cycle include: � December 9, 2011 for projects taking place between March 1, 2012 and February 28, 2013 � April 20, 2012 for projects taking place between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013

 Contest Overview:We're looking for your original, unpublished short stories up to 2,000 words. Entries will be judged based on creativity, sense of story, characterization, and overall quality of writing, including grammar, punctuation and syntax. The Algonkian Writer Conference–Write to Market for fiction writers will be held from May 11 to May 13, 2012, at the Corte Madera Best Western Hotel, approximately 25 miles north of San Francisco. The conference offers lectures and discussions on writing and selling a novel, as well as an agent pitch session. The faculty in 2011 included fiction writer Michael Neff, editors Julie Doughty and Charles Salzberg, and agents Sally van Haitsma and Gordon Warnock. Tuition is $295. Andrews Forest Writers' Residency

 The H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest offers one- to two-week residencies to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in September, November, and December in the Oregon Cascades, 40 miles east of Eugene. The residency is open to writers whose work “reflects a keen awareness of the natural world.” Residents are provided with a three-room apartment, which includes kitchen facilities, access to the forest research site, and a $250 stipend. Submit three sets of up to 10 pages of poetry or 15 pages of prose, a one-page project description, and a curriculum vitae by May 15. There is no application fee.
