Bistro Art Opening: Enlisted, Home & Away

On Wednesday, December 7th, from 5-7 p.m., the North Central Louisiana Arts Council (NCLAC) and 102 a Bistro will present “Enlisted, Home & Away” an exhibition of recent work by regional artist Mandi Zimmer. Join NCLAC, the North Louisiana Military Museum and artist Mandi Zimmer in a celebration of those individuals who have served their country.  Mandi photographs service men and women in a very unique and inviting style.  When asked about her approach Zimmer said “The stories of these men and woman were told through the use of environmental photography. It allows the viewer a look inside the life of each man and woman as they live their life today, to see the subject to reveal themselves as they are now, to allow them share the environment they live in, their families, and their interests.”

Zimmer captures these individuals not in uniform or in the act of heroism, but rather in everyday life.  The display will be intermixed with war memorabilia on loan from the military museum.  When asked what inspired this photographic exploration Mandi replied “The series…evolved from listening to an elderly neighbor talk about the commitments made by servicemen and women. Mr. Harry would sit for hours sharing stories of his time in World War Two.”  She remarked that “Over time, the reality of the sacrifices he and his fellow soldiers made became evident.”

The artist will attend the reception honoring her Wednesday, so as you enjoy wine and appetizer, take a moment to ask Mandi about her work and her subjects.

Afterward, stay and have dinner. Since it opened in April 2009, 102 have built a reputation as a place to experience great art and great food. More than just a restaurant, 102 is a unique cultural experience.
