Arts Afloat Approaching (Art Talk Monday's)

This week, the North Central Louisiana Arts Council (NCLAC) is spreading awareness of our biggest annual fundraiser, our Keep the Arts Afloat Benefit. Loyal supporters may remember this fundraiser as the Pick Up the Arts Benefit. This year, the success of our Keep the Arts Afloat Benefit is more important than ever.

Peter Jones, NCLAC president, explained that the state has zeroed out operating grant support for all small and medium-sized arts organizations. NCLAC—which serves the parishes of Lincoln, Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson and Union—falls into that category.

“NCLAC has been carefully allotting its resources in response to earlier funding cuts and has made a commitment to continue to offer its most popular programs,” Jones said. Even so, some programs have already had to be canceled.

As a result, this year’s Arts Afloat is all about the money, both for us and for you. By donating just $100 to NCLAC as part of our Keep the Arts Afloat Benefit, you automatically become eligible to win $10,000 at unbeatable odds.

Only the first 250 donors will be eligible for the Grand Prize drawing. Where can you find better odds of winning $10,000?

Your donation not only makes you eligible to win; it also helps support NCLAC’s current programs, including our Summer Arts Camps for kids, Drama Warehouse, the Peach Festival Art Exhibit, and our annual  November Holiday Arts Tour, which averages an economic impact of more than $70,000 in Lincoln parish.

NCLAC believes the arts have the potential to enhance people’s lives.

Children in particular need opportunities for creative expression. Such opportunities nurture their spirits, encourage innovative problem solving, and build a number of skills that contribute to success in other academic areas. For some of children, NCLAC’s programs are their only contact with the arts.

Through our various programs, we strive to foster opportunities for creative and cultural expression across the five parishes we serve: Lincoln, Bienville, Jackson, Union, and Claiborne. Every donation helps us achieve these goals.

The $10,000 Grand Prize drawing will be held at 3 p.m. on June 19 at the Ruston Civic Center during the Squire Creek Louisiana Peach Festival. The drawing will coincide with the opening of the Peach Festival Art Exhibit.

If you’d like a chance at the Grand Prize of $10,000, stop by our offices in the Dixie Center for the Arts from 9-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, or mail a check for $100 to NCLAC, P.O. Box 911, Ruston, LA 71273 with “Arts Afloat” in the memo line. Board member Richard Lewis will also allow ticket buyers to charge their tickets at Lewis’ Boutique (call 255-3545).

All other donations can be made safely online through PayPal at either of our websites, and because NCLAC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, they can be tax deductible. Thank you all for supporting the arts!
