Art Talk Monday: RCT's 2013/14 Season begins Thursday!

This week's Art Talk Monday is written by Tracy Calloway, Board President of Ruston Community Theatre. This weekend is the debut of Angel in the Pawnshop. Call the Dixie Center Box Office to get your tickets at (318)255-1450.

Ruston Community Theatre is beginning its 36th season of providing theatrical stage performances for Ruston and the surrounding areas.  This year we are undertaking five productions instead of our typical four.

Our season begins with a drama called Angel in the Pawnshop directed by Mitch Dufour.  The play shows next week on October 3, 4, and 5 at 7 pm and October 6 at 2 pm.  The story involves a young woman who discovers she has married a brutal gangster.  She runs away from the gangster to the sanctuary of a pawnshop run by an old man whom she trusted as a child.  While there, she meets a wide variety of characters who are customers of the pawnshop.  The gangster tracks her down and the play moves toward a final conflict between the forces of good and evil.

Following Angel in the Pawnshop is the hilarious Texas-based comedy Christmas Belles directed by Nancy Wallace.  This play follows the antics of the Futrelle sisters and is the sequel to Dearly Beloved which we produced two seasons ago.  Dates for Christmas Belles are December 5-8, 2013.

The remainder of our season includes:  Same Time Next Year directed by Satish Bharadvaj which is showing February 27 through March 2, 2014; All Because of Agatha directed by Billy Chandler showing May 1-4, 2014; and then our summer musical is The Sound of Music directed by Dee Alexander showing July 10-13, 2014.

I encourage everyone to purchase season tickets.  Season tickets are an excellent value and are crucial to providing us with an operation financial base.

I also encourage everyone to not only see our plays, but to participate in them as well.  Participation can include actors, costume designers, stage managers, prop masters, stage hands, set designers, etc.  I know I meet a whole new set of friends every time I participate in a play.

I look forward to seeing you all next week at the Dixie Center for the Arts for Angel in the Pawnshop.  Thank you for supporting the arts in your community.
