Photography Exhibit Opening at Crescent City Coffee Sept. 8th
Do you ever think about your childhood?
The North Central Louisiana Arts Council’s next exhibit at Crescent City is a collection of photography-based work that focuses on childhood themes, by Louisiana Tech University BFA graduates Jessica Bryan and Rhyan Emery Taylor. The Opening Reception for the exhibit will be on Sunday, September 8th, from 2-4pm at Crescent City Coffee.
Jessica Bryan’s work is a visual record of her adventures in mentoring and helping to care for her young nephew. From the body of work titled Aden, Jessica captures the wonder and understanding of the world as only a child could see it. She believes children need “to be documented so [their] character as a child is not lost,” and her work does just that. Traditional photography is a nice medium for her theme, virtually freezing exciting or mundane moments in her nephew’s life, turning them equally into documented memories.
Rhyan Emery Taylor’s pieces are dreamlike recollections of her childhood with her brother. In this body of work titled Walking Lucid, Rhyan recreates images from her imagination and fantasies as a child, and then uses a process called “pigment ink transfer” to place these digitally manipulated photographs onto panels. The result is that the works resemble paintings and represent the passing of time. Taylor says her work revolves around “translating [my] thoughts onto a physical surface for my imagination to live,” and then sharing those images with the viewer.
Come out on September 8th to see the work and to support these young professionals in their first duel post-graduate show! The exhibit will remain on display until December 2nd. NCLAC and Crescent City Coffee partner on quarterly art exhibitions. In December, the space will feature a mixed-media exhibit by Father Frank Folino. Crescent City Coffee, located at 1007 North Trenton Street in Ruston, is a full-scale coffee bar serving a variety of beverages, in addition to pastries, salads and a delicious lunch menu. The shop is open all day, every day.
