Art of Film: Bright Star

Join Lincoln Parish Library and the North Central Louisiana Arts Council on Thursday, April 28 at 6pm in the Lincoln Parish Library Meeting Room for their monthly series Art of Film. This month’s screening will be Bright Star a 2009 British/Australian/French co production about the last three years of John Keats life. This film based on the biography written by Andrew Motion, tells the tragic love story of John Keats (Ben Whish...aw) and Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish). The film’s titled is inspired by Keats sonnet titled by the same name supposedly about Fanny Brawne. Bright Star

Bright star! would I were steadfast as thou art—

Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night,

And watching, with eternal lids apart,

Like Nature’s patient sleepless Eremite,

The moving waters at their priestlike task

Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores,

Or gazing on the new soft fallen mask

Of snow upon the mountains and the moors—

No—yet still steadfast, still unchangeable,

Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast,

To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,

Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,

Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,

And so live ever—or else swoon to death.

Upcoming films in the Art of Film series include: • 5/26 Driving Bell & the Butterfly • 6/23 Jane Eyre
