Congratulations to Nancy Waldron, winner of the Schoolyard Art Brawl!

NCLAC is proud to announce that the Schoolyard Art Brawl was a success. Held on April 8th, the Art Brawl was part of the Ruston Makers Fair in conjunction with the Railroad Makers + Music Festival. The competition took place from 12noon – 1pm in the parking lot of the Historic Fire Station. The artists had one hour to complete a painting from start to finish. Two of the teachers participating brought student assistants to work with them.

This was a great event that brought many spectators to the area that were just passing by and would not have stopped otherwise, thus bringing awareness of the arts to the community. Spectators were encouraged to vote for their favorite artist/work of art by placing dollars in each artist’s bucket.

The Winner was Nancy Waldron of Choudrant, Simsboro and I.A. Lewis schools with her beautiful beach scene. Other participating artists/teachers were Crystal Pye of Ruston Jr. High & High School with two student assistants, Baylee Brown and Sophia Olsen; Emily Pullin of Cedar Creek School with two student assistants, Adrianna Robbins and Henry Pullin; and Becky Strickler of Ruston Jr. High School. All of the creations were marvelous and it was such fun to witness different approaches to making art. NCLAC was able to raise over $400 from this event to go toward more art projects in the community.
