We are seeking visual and literary artists for this year’s Holiday Arts Tour! Applications are available for artists and downtown Ruston merchants who wish to participate in this year’s event. Holiday Arts Tour is NCLAC’s annual celebration of the arts, when visual artists, writers and performers set up shop in downtown Ruston—and this is our 20th year! The public is invited to this free event to see art demonstrations, enjoy live music, speak with makers about their processes, and to shop unique, handmade and local with our regional artists.
As time goes on, we’ll be sharing many more details about the weekend, but today I am urging downtown merchants and local artists to submit their applications. Holiday Arts Tour (HAT) will be the first weekend of December (Dec. 1 and 2), in conjunction with the City of Ruston’s Christmas lights, Ruston Community Theatre’s Christmas play, and Lincoln Lights Up the Pines. This will definitely be a destination downtown weekend with a lot of foot traffic!
We will have performing artists and artists’ demonstrations; Sprout Hour, artist-led art projects for children; Art in Action, a live painting competition; People’s Choice Voting; the HAT Group Exhibition; and more. This year’s hours are Friday, 5-9pm, and Saturday, 10am-5pm.
So yes, December seems like ages away, but we take great care in matching artists and merchants, as well as in creating the wonderful booklet that features each of our artists. All of these elements must come together in order to prepare for the big weekend, so we need interested artists and shops to sign up now!
The deadline to sign up is September 8. After this time, any additional participation will depend upon availability and the timing of our print paraphernalia. To be a Holiday Arts Tour artist, each artist must become a NCLAC member. We also have a HAT committee that juries each applicant to be sure we have high-quality, professional work that offers variety for our shoppers. To be a Holiday Arts Tour location, the merchant must pay a participation fee of $150, which is used for marketing and promotion. Merchants also receive a percentage of sales from their given artist.
Artists and performers will be placed according to best fit at our deadline, so timeliness of applications is important. Please contact our office if you have any questions at (318)255-1450, or firstname.lastname@example.org. If you prefer a paper application, you may pick one up from our office in the Dixie Center for the Arts. Otherwise you may apply online at nclac.org/holidayartstour. Thanks to Fine Line Supply for their sponsorship of this wonderful event!
