Today’s Art Talk Monday is from Hillary Hileman-Hyacinth of Ruston Community Theatre
Ruston Community Theatre’s next production, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap directed by Satish Bharadvaj and sponsored by The Law Offices of Woodard and Clement, opens April 6th at The Dixie Center for the Arts in Ruston. Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap first opened in London, England in 1952, and has been running continuously since then. It has by far the longest initial run of any play in history, with its 25,000th performance taking place on November 18, 2012.
The play is set at Monkswell Manor, a bed and breakfast in the English countryside. Giles and Mollie Ralston welcome their first guests to their new venture as a married couple. However things soon go awry as a blizzard snows everyone in. Then, suddenly, a police detective arrives to investigate a murder.
Director Satish Bharadvaj says, “Murder mysteries have always had a special place in my heart. And there cannot be a catchy, powerful, and classic murder mystery without inclusion and mention of the murder mysteries by Agatha Christie. The Mousetrap is one of those classic murder mysteries. The fact that this is the longest running show is the proof of this being a very powerful play. I am so honored to have this opportunity to direct this classic play and the very talented cast.”
