NCLAC is so excited that this weekend is Holiday Arts Tour! Did you know Holiday Arts Tour has been named #9 in the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Festival & Event List for December? What an honor! And how great that they recognize this wonderful event that’s right in YOUR backyard!
In addition to all the participating shops that will be open downtown for the Tour next weekend, we also have two exclusive private artists’ studios that will be open to visitors.
Near Cedar Creek School, tour-goers can visit artist Hooshang Khorasani at his in-home studio, viewing genres that include florals, abstracts, landscapes and horses. Hooshang will have originals and prints available in a number of sizes, with palettes that range from gray to a variety of colorful hues. Hooshang will be open for visitors Friday, Dec. 2, 5-9 and Saturday, Dec. 3, 10-5.
Heading west on Hwy 544, tour-goers will experience a unique getaway at M. Douglas Walton’s home, studio and grounds. A tour of this special place is sure to indulge your senses and inspire your creativity, with art and artifacts from around the world blanketing the property, in addition to works created by Doug himself.
Another special part of this year’s Tour will be activities at Railroad Park on Saturday morning, Dec. 3, from 10-11am. We’ll hold Sprout Hour here this year, with a number of tables set up offering art activities for children, led by artists Christiane Drieling, April Honaker, Catherine McVea and Victoria Smith.
While the kids create, we’ll have ten artists working on site in an art battle, Art in Action: Arts Tour Edition. These courageous creatives will be painting in a competition to win the most votes. Your dollars are their votes! So come down, watch them paint, and vote on your favorites by tossing bucks in their buckets. The paintings will also be for sale— you can’t get fresher than a painting made before your eyes!
Our talented performing artists this year include Cain Budds (classical guitar) and Rhapsody Quartet (a cappella harmony), both on Friday evening. Saturday includes a variety of musical genres with Grassfire (bluegrass), Ionian Trio (dulcimer ensemble), and Implosion Percussion (percussion ensemble). We are thrilled to have Tech Theatre Players back again this year, with their mixture of music, dance, monologues, combat and more.
We will also have a number of artist demonstrations, with calligraphy, drawing from life, watercolor, woodturning and needle felting. These will be Saturday from 11-2 at assorted locations.
More details, including a schedule and map, can be found through this link. This event is an opportunity to walk through charming downtown Ruston, meet talented artists, and shop for original art. General shopping hours are Friday, Dec. 2 from 5-9pm, and Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10-5pm.
NCLAC’s Holiday Arts Tour is supported by Title Sponsor Fine Line Supply Co., and by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council and administered by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.
